U. S. Steel will restart Battery #13 at its Mon Valley Works – Clairton Plant. The battery has been on hot idle since the August incident to allow for repairs and careful equipment checks. With that work now finished, we’re preparing to safely bring it back into operation.

The restart is expected to begin on February 5th. The battery is expected to begin producing coke the following day. Throughout the process, we’ll be focused on operating safely and responsibly. We’ve notified the Allegheny County Health Department and will stay in close communication as the restart moves forward. Emissions controls will be active and closely monitored as the battery comes back online.

We’re grateful to the employees and contractors who have worked to repair the battery.

As we take this step, we continue to hold in our thoughts the employees who were injured or lost during the August 11th incident. We remain mindful of their families, colleagues, and loved ones. Their memory guides our commitment to safety every day.
