Batteries #13 and #14 Safely Hot Idled
08/29/2025
U. S. Steel safely placed batteries #13 and #14 on hot idle. There were no exceedances of air pollutants at the Allegheny County air monitors during this process. The hot idle state of the batteries will allow them to maintain their temperature and for us to continue to assess for any damage to the ovens and determine the course of action to repair. There is no coking or production taking place at batteries #13 and #14.
Batteries #19 and #20, which were impacted temporarily by the incident, are back to producing at full production.
We remain in contact with the Allegheny County Health Department and other appropriate regulatory agencies, as our investigation continues.
