“On behalf of U. S. Steel, thank you to Governor Shapiro, County Executive Innamorato, and USW District 10 Director Bernie Hall, for visiting our Clairton Plant and spending time with our employees and their families, and the surrounding community during this extraordinarily difficult time. And thank you to all the local government and business leaders, as well as our neighbors – for asking what we need, offering prayers, sharing food with first responders, and countless other acts of kindness.
“For those of us on the ground here for the past two days, it has been both humbling and heartbreaking to see the impact of this tragedy firsthand. The Governor and other leaders have shown up ready to offer a hand, and that approach has helped us work together productively as we navigate this crisis.
“We are fully cooperating with all investigations into the incident, and we are committed to understanding exactly what happened so that nothing like it ever happens again. But right now, our focus is — and will remain — on our employees and the broader Clairton community.”
